This weekend my boyfriend took me to Columbus, OH to see Cirque Du Soleil! It was his gift to me for our anniversary. We spent the whole day in Columbus, starting with a delicious brunch at a place called “Knead“. We chose this place because it was all freshly made with locally produced ingredients. It was a pretty cute place and the food was delicious! I had gingerbread pancakes — YUM!

This dress makes me so incredibly happy! The color is so vibrant and the full skirt is so fun to run around in. It kinda makes me feel like I’m wearing a costume, but I don’t care! I love it too much! It’s got to be the best thing I’ve ever found at a thrift shop. AND a bonus was that it was super cheap because the zipper was falling out. Took me all of 10 minutes to fix that!

After Brunch we walked to COSI!

It’s a super fun science museum I hadn’t been too since elementary school, and I was way excited to go back! We had tons of hands-on science-y fun. [PS. Brian loves that sweater and wears it everywhere lol :p]

There was a cool exhibit called “Progress”, and they had a whole 1950s town set up. We decided to take advantage of the 50s scenery since I was wearing a 50s dress, and snagged a few photos!

OKAY. So. Cirque Du Soleil. First off, let me tell you, it was absolutely one of THE most amazing things I’ve ever seen! Neither of us really knew what to expect, or if it would actually be cool, and it far exceeded both of our expectations! It was beautiful and impressive, the “clowns” were hilarious, and the acrobatic stunts were terrifying and flawless! The overall theme was actually kind of dark and eerie, which we loved, and the music and costumes made it feel like we were watching some little Russian circus in the middle of no where 100 years ago — amazing.

Basically, we had a great mini weekend get away. :] Sometimes, those are the best kinds of vacations!

A few things I’m loving right now that are on my Christmas list! That gold sparkly dress would be perfect for new years, and I have wanted black Doc Martens & a raw crystal ring for FOREVER, but they are just things I don’t NEED that cost a little more than I want to spend. I’m planning on redoing my room soon, and hooopefully creating a studio space in our basement, so the Doctor Who print and lantern are super cute pieces I’d love to have to decorate with.

I’m super excited that it’s December! Christmas-time is one of my faaavorite times of the year. Everything sparkles and smells like pine & fresh baked cookies.

Just got these boots in the mail this week! You may remember them from my November wish list earlier this month. They are aaamazing & I’m so glad I bought them. And this little red dress is perfect for dressing up or down. I’m excited to wear it this month because the bright red color makes me feel super Christmas-y!

I have loved the maiden braid hair style for so long, but every time I tried to rock it, I looked too milk-maidy [and not in a cute way lol]. I don’t have bangs, and I usually part my hair down the middle, and I think that’s why I didn’t like it. So, this time I decided to part my hair on the side and it did the trick! I will definitely be wearing my hair like this a lot in the future. It’s super easy to do and I’m always looking for new ways to wear my hair up and out of my face.

I cannot tell you how happy I am with this shoe purchase! These shoes were SO cheap and got to my house in 2 days AND the quality is actually pretty good! Absolutely better than I was expecting from a pair of pumps that cost less than $20. AND they are totally comfy.

We had an awesome day in Detroit going to the Belle Isle Aquarium & Conservatory. I’ll post some pics from that later this week!

Absolutely loving ORANGE lately! I never used to be a huge orange fan, but orange accessories and home accents make for a great pop of color. I wouldn’t go crazy and paint every wall in my house orange or anything, just in small doses it brings in a good amount of fun! Specifically loving that vintage Braun KF20 coffee pot that I originally stumbled upon on FRSHGRND. While it probably brews a pretty standard pot of coffee, it’s 1970’s-futuristic design makes it totally appealing.

It’s getting colder so I’ve been layering more and wearing more sweaters. I am generally NOT into having to layer, and winter clothes in general, mostly because I hate being cold. BUT I am really loving this floral pants/leggings trend going on this season. It really brightens up my day wearing something so summery in the winter, and makes the cold a little more bearable!

This dress is one of my faaavorites. It’s a young girls dress from the 60s/70s so it’s real short , but it works for me because I am real short! I especially love the Aztec pattern & colors of the fabric on the top half. It’s a great dress for Fall-Winter because of the long-sleeves and the heavy 70s polyester fabric. It was an extra fun find because it’s from Salvation Army, and not an actual vintage store! It’s always exciting to find good vintage gems in thrift stores.

So, I know there are a million floral crown DIYs out there, but here is how I did mine. I really wanted one that was simple, & JUST roses. I also get headaches really easily when I wear headbands. So, I decided to make mine just out of ribbon. That way it would be soft & comfy on my head. The basic idea is just to buy roses, in this case fake ones, cut them off the stems, & hand sew them onto the ribbon. Super simple idea, relatively easy to execute.

What you’ll need:
+Flowers
+Ribbon
+Needle & Thread
+Scissors
+Hot Glue [optional]

Start by picking your flowers. I chose large pink roses, 6 was the perfect number to make it across the front of my head from ear to ear. After you pick your flowers, pop them off the stems & cut off any excess plastic that’s sticking out. This is when I used the hot glue. You don’t HAVE to, but once you pop them off the stems they tend to come apart. So, I used hot glue to reinforce the backs so they would stay together.

Once you’ve got the flowers ready, cut a piece of ribbon that is long enough to tie around your head. Cut it longer rather than shorter; you can always trim it down.

Now, it’s time to sew on the flowers! Cut the thread just long enough to do one flower, & then re-thread the needle for each one. This keeps the thread at a manageable length, & makes everything easier. I recommend sewing the flowers on starting at the center, & working your way out. That way, you can make sure everything is centered correctly. Begin sewing up through the back of the ribbon into the back of the flower. Be sure to go through several of the layers, so that the flowers will stay together better. I made a couple good stitches on the left and right side of each flower so that it would lay flat. Sew them on about 1 inch-1.5 inches apart.

I also created two small headbands for my nieces. For these, I used the same exact process, but with smaller flowers & elastic to create a stretchy headband.

So there you have it! Relatively easy, simple rose headbands for you & any pretty little girls in your life!

[Somebody was nooot too into having her picture taken!]

Good luck & get creative! ❤

What do you need for your wardrobe & home this winter??

// Laura Jude //

I looove pastels, no matter what time of year it is! Look, even my tattoo matched my outfit. ;]  Pastels are a great way to bring some color & fun to your day even if the weather is dreary and grey. [rhyme unintentional lol]

This necklace is my faaavorite, but I couldn’t find it in this color online for you! Target.com has it in a bunch of other colors, though, and I highly recommend it. I want to buy them all!

Hope you have a wonderful evening!
